Introduction

In photoshop, a droplet is an executable file created to automate a set of images using action. An action is basically a script in photoshop which helps you to batch process a bunch of images in a repeated manner. Hence, a droplet cannot work without an action. This is a powerful tool when you are working with a repeated task as it will surely save you alot of time.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to create an action follow by generating a resize droplet with the action involved. Lets get started.

Step 1

You can start with any images that you wish. After you have open up an image to work with, go to the action tool in photoshop. To open up the action tab if you haven’t done so, simply navigate to Window – Actions or click on this icon on the right side of the photoshop tool.

Step 2

After you have open up the action tab, create a new action under the default action set.

Alternatively, you can create a new set before creating your new action.

Step 3

After clicking on the new action, you will be prompt to insert a name for it. After you have done so, click on record to start recording your action.

Step 4

You should see the red recording button if you have done it correctly. Now every action you make will be recorded down. To create a resize action, you need to resize your image. In this tutorial, I will be resizing my image to 800px width. The height will be resized propotionately with the image.

Just a sidenote, if you are reducing the size of your images, it is best to set the resample image to Bicubic Sharper. If you are enlarging your images, choose Bicubic Smoother.

Step 5

After you are done resizing, simply save the image by going to File – Save as. After which, close your image. Now you are done with all the actions that you need. Hence, you can stop the recording by clicking on the stop icon in the action tab.

Step 6

Now your action is created. What you need to do now is to generate a droplet. To do so, go to File – Automate – Create droplet. Follow the instruction in the screenshot below.

After you are done, simply press ok.

Step 7

You are done creating your action and droplet. Now to use the droplet, simply drag and drop any images into the droplet executable file and your processed image will be save under the folder you specify previously.

Now have fun!!
